Editor’s Note: Why Did I Start BLACKCITYGIRL?

twitter 10

For those that are curious

I’m a Black career woman living in the city. I remember the days when wild horses couldn’t drag me from a hot party – yes that’s me in the neon yellow dress! Now, I amuse myself by going to work everyday, coming home exhausted, only to repeat the same cycle the following day. Like most, I earn a salary that I never get time to spend. I’m always “busy” doing something. Sometimes I do nothing at all, but the point is, I’m still “busy” doing nothing. Besides getting my hair done, shopping, going to the gym, gossiping with friends, I spend the rest of my time wishing my workmates would rot in hell. Okay just kidding! But seriously, I sometimes wonder whether there is more to life.

Why did I start BLACKCITYGIRL?

Well, I was tired of answering to other people. You see, I go to work and answer to my boss. I go home and answer to my housemates. I go to my parent’s and answer to my elders, I started a side job (copy-writing for small businesses now I copy-write full time) and answer to different clients, I’m the youngest in my family and I answer to my siblings. So I created this blog as a sanctuary (a place) where I could just be ME. Moreover, this blog is a forum that allows everyone to have a voice – be THEMSELVES and share with people from all walks of life.  As Oprah says:

Oprah

I was once afraid of people saying, “Who does she think she is?” Now I have the courage to stand and say, “This is who I am.”

I love my girlfriends. I love to talk. I love to listen. And most of all I love being a Black Woman. Did I mention, I’m a little crazy as well:

Expect the unexpectedExpect the unexpected

Brace yourself readers as you’re in for a ride!

Until next time,

God Bless,

Yvonne. x
